Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.

So it looks like the animated GIF might finally grow up and become sophisticated. NYC photographer and active blogger on Tumblr, Jamie - “From Me To You” recently brought the talented Coco Rocha to life with a series of cinemagraphs.

Through my new friends at tumblr headquarters I’ve recently come in contact with a very talented new photographer named Jamie. She and her boyfriend create these unique images she calls “cinemagraphs” - more than a photo, but not quite a video.

Mark my words friends, this art form is the way of the future.

On a side note Oh So Coco was one of the first sites to use the MARS theme.

Apple Gives a Nod to Newton with New ‘What is iPad?’ Ad”

MacRumors points out that the wonderful new back-to-roots iPad spot (while it stands on its own) is actually a pretty unmistakable homage to the original “What is Newton?” ad, which holds up pretty well after two decades of shifting color palettes and film stocks.

This is just the sort of advertising I shudder with joy to see Apple doing. It takes us out of Crate and Barrel and puts us everywhere else.

Absolutely lovely ad. “iPad is … crazy powerful” (yip; the guy really said “crazy powerful”); now that sounds a lot better than that weird Verizon Droid ad, which seems keen on advertising its “1Ghz Snapdragon Processor” to a non-tech mainstream audience.

Let me tell you a little bit about Robicelli’s.

It all started earlier this year when I had my first Robicelli’s cupcake. Even before I bought the cupcake, and I stood before the four flavors to be chosen from at Crespella, I knew this would be different. There were no vanilla cupcakes! No chocolate! And certainly no sprinkles! And thank goodness, because fuck that.

Cupcakes are great and all, but vanilla is vanilla and chocolate is chocolate and I’m 24 years old. I’ve had enough chocolate and vanilla, goddammit! These are cupcakes for grown-ups who want something new and interesting but still in that familiar, comforting, handheld package that is so gloriously American and nostalgic.
